Kolara Gate – Gateway to wildlife.

Between Navegaon and Moharli is Kolara Gate, the second most famous entry gate after Moharli. This is an alternative entrance to Tadoba’s rich wildlife tapestry. While tiger sightings are common at the Moharli Gate, Kolara boasts of its charm and unique ecosystem.

Variety in Geographical Features

Kolara has more dense forest cover consisting of tall bamboo trees and winding streams unlike Moharli which mainly has open grasslands. These thickets provide excellent hideouts for a wider range of animal species.

Therefore, keep your eyes open for occasional appearances by leopards, graceful movements of chital and sambar deer or even slow bears shuffling lazily along the ground. Moreover, it remains a birdwatcher’s paradise with frequent sights of hornbills among other varieties such as crested serpent eagles and paradise flycatchers.

Adrenaline rush on Jeep Safaris

The main mode through which Kolara can be explored is jeep safaris being offered here. Nine jeep safaris are conducted daily which include both morning and evening safaris. Embrace yourself as you might steal a glimpse of royal tigress Maya; Tala with 4 cubs at Talab or perhaps Rudra – the male tiger itself!

Accompanying each safari are knowledgeable guides who have good understanding about different aspects related to ecology within this park.

Tips For Planning Your Safari Adventure

The limited access of the jeep safaris translates to a more isolated and potentially less crowded safari experience. However, booking your safari in advance is still recommended.

Canter safaris at Kolara Gate are less frequent where up to 20 people can be accommodated but online booking is not available for this option. Canters being larger vehicles compared to jeeps. They cannot go through narrow trails and may limit chances of seeing some animals.

Best Time to Visit Kolara

The summer season (March-May) provides highest probability of spotting tigers in Kolara. In the hot dry weather, most wildlife will be forced around waterholes making them more visible.

If you want a quieter visit or tiger sighting is not your only aim, then consider coming over winters (November-February) or post monsoon (October and November).

Kolara Gate, with its unique ecosystem and wider range of wildlife promises an unforgettable experience filled with adventure for any nature lover.
